|| Character Bio ||

• Personality: Rhoan is a kind soul with a little bit of damage. He is confident and curious in his magical abilities, having used them as a crutch to aid him with his handicap, and constantly spends time broadening his magical horizons. Overcoming his handicap and accepting it with the help of his loving wife he is now quite sure of who he is and has come to grow into the life he's built for himself. He remains guarded but is fiercely loyal to his friends and family and once you are in his circle of trust there is no length he wont go for you. He is morally grounded, and tends to stay away from politics. With the history of the Devereaux family he doesnt have much faith or respect for wizarding government or the protection offered through their laws. Its all down to the people behind the power. As a direct result of his suspicions with others he has a great love for animals and magical creatures. Having used them often as an emotional escape when he was at school and needed a break from the stigma of his handicap. As a wandmaker and experimenter he is quite adventurous in exploring new fields of magic and is a little bit reckless in his inventions. This has proved to be a boon however as it has carved him his own unique space in the magical market, putting him on the cutting edge of experimental charms where he breaks ground to this day. 

• Background: The Devereaux family is an ancient pureblood line dating back many hundreds of years and are known for being seekers of knowledge. Many of them going down the line of Cursebreakers and Magical Archeologists, they have unlocked and discovered countless secrets and archived them in their family vault and ever growing library. Unbiased in their search for all things magical they did not discriminate between "Good" or "Bad" for their findings and simply recorded knowledge for what it was. Their position and information has been tapped into and put to use in close partnership with the Ministry of Magic over the years, and though the relationship hasnt always been a comfortable one it has been mutually beneficial to each others causes. This all unfortunately came to an end around 20 years ago when an unfortunate incident almost wiped out the whole family.

There was little warning when several of the nearby dragon population went berserk in their hunting grounds and came down out of the mountains near House Devereaux. The cause of their strange behavior was never uncovered but local dragonologists all agreed that the attack was unnatural, as it wasnt the season for such aggressive behavior and the dragons in question werent ones to leave their territory. The small hamlet and its population was almost completely destroyed, and though Rhoan and Nic survived, they didnt come out unscathed. Rhoan's whole left side was burned away in an instant and Nic suffered severe mental scarring but in the end they still had each other.

After recovering from the incident Rhoan and Nic were adopted by friends of the family and raised as close to their parents wishes as possible, one attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, with the other studying at The Durmstrang Institute. His time at school helped greatly to aid in Rhoan's recovery and he found that he could make up for his missing arm through his powerful aptitude for magic. He found he was very capable in the loud and boisterous areas of magic, but was less inclined towards the more tedious ones. Potions, Alchemy, Astronomy, Runes, Divination, and anything that generally required prolonged periods of focus and concentration tended to slip away from him. On the spot and physical fields of magic like Charms, Defense against the Dark Arts, Care of Magical Creatures, and even Transfiguration he managed with top marks. As he finished off in school he found himself an internship at the Wandcrafters shop in Diagon Alley, which he eventually took over. 

It was at this same shop that he got to know his wife, Gwendolyn Mcgovern. They had met occasionally at school but romance had never been something that Rhoan had ever spared a thought to. Her quiet attraction to him and long time crush eventually came out into the open and the two found happiness together when their first child was born. It came as a surprise when she inherited the post of Headmistress of Hogwarts from the previous Headmaster, and the timing was a little difficult for them as a budding family but with Rhoan hiring on his own help at his shop and with the restoration of House Devereaux they have managed to make things work. Rhoan currently spends most of his time working on new breakthroughs in wand wood and core experimentation while sticking close to home to stay as close to his family as possible.

Apple

Applewood wands are not made in great numbers. They are powerful and best suited to an owner of high aims and ideals, as this wood mixes poorly with Dark magic. It is said that the possessor of an apple wand will be well-loved and long-lived, and I have often noticed that customers of great personal charm find their perfect match in an applewood wand. An unusual ability to converse with other magical beings in their native tongues is often found among apple wand owners, who include the celebrated author of Merpeople: A Comprehensive Guide to Their Language and Customs, Dylan Marwood.

Dragon

As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.

Most wands will be in the range of between nine and fourteen inches. While I have sold extremely short wands (eight inches and under) and very long wands (over fifteen inches), these are exceptionally rare. In the latter case, a physical peculiarity demanded the excessive wand length. However, abnormally short wands usually select those in whose character something is lacking, rather than because they are physically undersized (many small witches and wizards are chosen by longer wands).
